40th Anniversary of the Osborne Studio Gallery

Celebrating 40 years since opening in Covent Garden in 1986, the OSG marks its anniversary with a special exhibition featuring two works each from twenty-two of the gallery’s leading artists.

The show reflects the gallery’s legacy as specialists in equine and sporting art, it's championing of innovative and exciting artists, and looks ahead to its next chapter as it prepares to move from Motcomb Street later in the year.

It is for me almost impossible to believe that the OSG was founded 40 years ago this April, in 1986. I recently found the photograph of our first exhibition; on the basis of ten exhibitions per annum but probably more, that is 400 plus shows, I found that even more impossible to believe!

I consider us so lucky to have worked with all the astonishingly talented artists that we have represented over the years, many of whom have become good friends. I think anyone who has a gallery will agree that it is a business of multiple ups and downs and I feel we have had our share of those. We, for example, moved five times in five years between 1991 and 1996 (from our original base in Covent garden) just to stay afloat.

Our longevity, is largely down to our remarkably generous and encouraging co-directors and shareholders. I can only repeat how fortunate I have been and I must add to those, our wonderful gallery managers over the past 40 years.

To celebrate this milestone, we have invited over 20 of our leading painters and sculptors to each provide us with two works. I’m sure you will agree with me that, as ever, they have produced outstanding pieces. My final and most important thank you, is to you our collectors, without you, we would not exist. I hope that the works now scattered around the world have given you as much pleasure as they did us in curating them.
