Jess's work combines exquisite detail with an impressionistic flair that lends an energy and vitality to her paintings. Now focusing entirely on equine subjects her process involves photographing and sketching from life and then creating detailed depictions back home in her studio in Hampshire. Landscape backgrounds are often taken from different locations to lend atmosphere and allow her to compose scenes to best frame the subject. In this exhibition Jess will be depicting mares and foals, using source material taken at Highclere Stud, with foals from the likes of Frankel providing plenty of inspiration. Jess's recent experiences of becoming a mother and her upbringing in the racing world have deeply influenced this body of work, which combines the beauty and delicacy of new life with anticipation of what's to come.
ROSE OSBORN:
Rose is a British-born artist based in Berkshire, whose work is rooted in storytelling, bold colour, and a deep connection to the natural world. Her longstanding career in horse racing, where she worked as a Racing Secretary, continues to shape her visual language, often seen in the quiet strength and presence of animals in her paintings. In early 2024, Rose made the leap to pursue painting full-time, bringing together creative exploration and an instinct for observation. Her work draws on influences ranging from folk art to textiles, capturing moments that feel both intimate and imagined.
Specialising in using Oil Paints, Rose paints mainly from her studio at home. Often from sketches made 'en plein air', life drawing classes and from photographs taken on her travels. Rose's paintings invite the viewer to look beyond what we think we see and importantly the journey through her own life in paint.
