“I concentrate on painting horses life size in a traditional style, from life, using
my own hand ground paints and hand stretched canvases. This style helps me to
achieve an expressive representation which is unparalleled by modern photo realistic
paintings. To me, the Horse is the world’s most beautiful creature and I will continue
to improve my painting skills until I can do these Horses justice”
This is a new collection of smaller paintings inspired by breeds of horses I have seen on
my travels. Having been trained in traditional portraiture by Charles Cecil, I have kept the
same classical painting style for the horses but have contrasted them against bright and bold
coloured backgrounds, to add a modern twist to the otherwise conventional Equine Portrait.
My current ambition is to paint “Around the World in 80 Horses” which is essentially a
challenge to paint 80 different breeds of horses from around the world in their country of
origin and all on life sized canvases.
I have brought back a painting from India of the Rajasthani Horse called the Nukra and
one from The Grenadines of an island pony on Mustique.
Most of my work is traditional oil paintings, the horse is posed standing proudly but not in
motion, this collection of Spotty Circus Horses is where I let my imagination run wild with
fun polka dotted prancing ponies in watercolour.
