Having graduated with a degree in Biology from London University, Justin found himself working on a Black Rhino conservation project in the African bush. His time there had a long lasting effect on him as it saw the beginning of his painting career. He was amazed by the beauty of the animals and the energy of the colours. Justin returned home with vivid recollections of the time spent in Africa and the paintings of this period were the trigger for his passionate relationship with colour and light.

This relationship was to further deepen after an awe-inspiring trip to Venice. As with many other artists, Justin fell in love with the beauty of the Serenissima and could not wait to capture the colour and light of the morning sun on the Venetian Lagoon. Returning home to England and inspired by the age old mysticism of Venice he produced some of his most successful paintings. Justin revisits Venice every year and continues to be entranced by the scenery, atmosphere and light he finds there.

The Mediterranean too has become central to Justin's subject matter. Many trips to the South of France and recently Mallorca, have inspired him - he aims to recreate the calm depth of colour and reflection of light which he finds there and which constitute the incredible beauty of these places.

Most recently, in sharp contrast, Justin found himself in New York and transfixed by the sheer enormity of everything in this 'Big' City. He was struck by the colour and atmosphere - everything passionate, vivid, alive and full of energy. His paintings of New York perfectly evoke the spirit and vigour of this unique city.

Living and working in Bedfordshire, Justin has had a number of solo and joint exhibitions in the Home Counties, as well as exhibiting in the Mall Galleries in London. He has shown at the Osborne Studio Gallery for the past 4 years and has sold paintings through Christies. He has also had a number of paintings published by Solomon and Whitehead.
