Foreword by Michaela Strachan

BBC wildlife presenter

I was really pleased to be asked to write the foreword to Amanda's first solo exhibition. I've always envied people who can draw. My artistic talents are extremely limited to say the least. When I try to draw a picture of a rabbit it looks like my four-year old has done it. Amanda, however, clearly has heaps of natural talent. Her drawings have a wonderful quality. They are highly detailed but they have real charm, character and expression. The rabbits are particularly adorable.

You can tell that Amanda, like myself, has a real love for wildlife. I have expressed mine by presenting wildlife programmes for the last twenty years, she has expressed hers by producing this stunning collection of work and that's why I'm delighted to support her exhibition.

I have particularly enjoyed many years presenting children's wildlife programmes such as 'The Really Wild Show' and 'Michaela's Wild Challenge' and have found it very fulfilling to ignite children's interest in nature. Amanda is doing the same with a children's storybook that she has produced with her husband and which is being launched alongside the exhibition. The story is set in Richmond Park which has always been a favourite of mine and her drawings feature throughout. I'm sure it will capture children's imagination in the same way that Beatrix Potter captured mine! The limited edition book could become a collectors' item and would make the perfect present for any child who loves animals.

It's great to support a talented young artist like Amanda, I'm sure her career will fly as high as the beautiful birds in her pictures.

After Amanda's successful participation in a mixed exhibition last year, the gallery now presents this talented artist's first one-man show. She specialises in finely detailed drawings of birds and animals and has received much accclaim for her ability to capture the likeness and character of her subjects. This exhibition coincides with the launch of her beautifully illustrated children's book which she has produced in collaboration with her husband, James Metcalf, the author.
